Halloween Candy Buy-Back with Smiles by Payet

Get the scoop on how your kids can get cash for candy in the Halloween Candy Buy-Back!

Trick or Treat

We Trick or Treated at the Promenade Shopping Center last Friday.  Tomorrow is Halloween and Trick or Treat in Charlotte, which means even more candy!  I already know we will not be able to eat all that candy.

Trick or Treat

Usually we save a few pieces and either have my husband take the rest to work or simply through it away. This year however, we’re taking the leftover candy to the dentist. Yes, you read that correctly!

This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Smiles by Payet Family Dentistry in south Charlotte and receive $1 per pound – up to $5 maximum.  Candy will be collected at Smiles by Payet Family Dentistry, 4601 Park Rd. Ste. 175 in south Charlotte on Saturday, November 1st from 10:00am – 2:00pm.  The candy must be unopened and children must be accompanied by an adult.

The candy is shipped to an organization dedicated to serving our troops, called Operation Gratitude.  Volunteers there send the candy and other items to be delivered to troops overseas in holiday care packages. Kids that come to this event are also invited to make cards for the care packages.

Good deeds.  Cash.  Goody bags.  And a plan to rid ourselves of all that left over candy!

Festive Fall Decorations

Happy fall y’all! I love this time of year, especially with the upcoming holiday fun with family and friends!

This year I decided to add a burlap wreath to my fall and Halloween décor outside.  I used this as a guide I wanted a whimsical wreath for my kids that I can use year round, changing the ornaments with the holidays and seasons.

Gather your supplies from Michael’s or your local crafts store.  You will need a 20″ wire wreath, 2 rolls of  4″ burlap ribbon,  a letter for your family’s initial, and floral wire, which totals $40.

To personalize the wreath, use items you already own or your children’s arts and crafts.  I used a bat my daughter had made, a scarecrow, and chevron burlap ribbon.  To create a little more pop of color I tied an orange ribbon to the pink chevron burlap bow.

The best thing about the wreath besides the price for supplies, is that it took me 30 minutes to make and another 10 minutes to style!

One of the best secrets about decorating is buying a few staple items and reusing them each year in a different arrangement, while adding a few new items.  In my arrangement I love the contrast of the lanterns next to the pumpkins. Add a little glitter to glam up your décor!

Don’t be afraid to mix and match. I have a few orange and white artificial pumpkins that I arrange next to green and multicolored pumpkins.  I also use pumpkins that come in different sizes and shapes to make the arrangement more interesting.

DIY Chalkboard Decoration Ideas!

Chalkboards are not just for the school room anymore! Chalkboards are the new trend in wedding and event decor from table number signs, to food displays, to name tags.

Why not be creative and make your own chalkboard decor using chalkboard paint such as the pumpkin pictured above for the kids to decorate this Halloween.

Hosting a wine and cheese party? Make your own chalkboard signs in fun colors to fit your theme.  You can also make your own chalkboard sign to match the theme for a kid’s birthday party or next years first day of school photos.  Another fun way to announce you’re expecting a baby is to make your own chalkboard sign(s) with the name of the baby, due date, or the words love, happiness, and family. The uses are endless!

To make your own chalkboard sign you will need the following:

  •  1 Piece of white foam board/plastic pumpkin (8in x 10in foam board is shown)
  • Colored chalkboard paint (Martha Stewart Blue Chalkboard paint is shown)
  • 1 Sponge brush
  • Colored chalk

Take the white foam board and paint one coat of chalkboard paint using the sponge brush as directed.  Let it dry for 30 minutes. Paint second coat of paint and lay dry for 24 hours.  Use colored chalk to write your message.

Fall Entertaining

There’s something about Fall when the kids go back to school, the air becomes crisp and football, apple and pumpkin picking are family past times. Using the flavors and the colors of the season it’s easy to decorate your front porch and tablescape with seasonal squash, apples, flowers, eggplant and a little glam with glitter!   Host a fall dinner party, pumpkin carving or decorating party with stickers and glitter, or a Halloween party. Fall entertaining and decor isn’t just for the September and October months, but can be carried over for Thanksgiving entertaining as well.  Be creative in your design by using other vegetables for a punch of color like I did on this tablescape above with artichokes.  You can cut a hole in the top of the artichoke or a small pumpkin and place a votive candle in the middle, which will make your setting perfect for an evening event.  For decorating tips and ideas please check out last years post on Fall Entertaining.
