I’m so excited to finally share my daughter Charlotte’s nursery with all the finishing touches.  As many of you may know, moving and having a newborn takes away a lot of your free time, add another child into the mix that’s less than 2 years old, and your free time shrinks even more.  Needless to say it has taken me this long to post.

You can read all about the details of this coral and robin’s egg blue inspired nursery in my previous post: http://wp.me/p1s2CI-jZ  Here are my favorite photos, some taken by Kasey Loftin Photography and the rest taken by me, Sarah Sofia Productions.  When you walk into the room the first thing you notice is the crib and the beautiful mirrors hanging about it with the blue stencil walls.  Your eyes then move to the left corner, where I have designed a nook with wall frames, photographs, glider, and side table.  Then to your right you will find the blue dresser with Charlotte’s monogrammed letters and coral piece sitting a top a stack of my favorite childhood books.

We are currently using the nursery as a guest room until Charlotte grows older.  The colors blend great together, making this a wonderful guest retreat and nursery.

Coral & Robin’s Egg Blue Nursery: Sneak Peek

IMG_7275Coral and blue were our wedding colors and I’ve wanted to decorate a room in these colors for sometime.  We recently moved into a new home and with the arrival of our second daughter any day I finally have a room I can decorate in coral and robin’s egg blue!

Besides my love of the colors, my inspiration for this room stemmed from the coral sculpture that is displayed on the dresser, a mixture of girl nursery’s on Project Nursery, Rabat Allover wall Stencil, and the floral yet whimsical rug that ties both the coral and blue together.

The wall stencil is the main focal point and took me over 7 hours to paint.  The walls were painted in a darker Robin’s Egg Blue, and then I stenciled the Rabat Allover, in a lighter Robin’s Egg Blue to get the effect.  I had planned to do juts one accent wall, but decided I needed two, one to place the dresser and the other for the crib and mirrors.

Continuing the shabby chic, eclectic, vintage look that I used for my daughter Sofia’s nursery, I found the perfect repainted antique dresser by Lisa Phillips, to serve as one of the focal points of the nursery.

The other focal point will be the white crib place against the other stenciled accent wall.  Since my daughters will be 18 months apart, I decided to buy the same crib, Pottery Barn Kid’s Catalina.  Above the crib I plan to have two painted coral mirrors that resemble the shape of the stencil and flank a larger square antique looking white mirror that I found at Southern Marketplace.

I have moved my daughter Sofia’s glider into the nursery, which is light green and picks up accent colors in the rug.  I’m reusing a blue lamp we had in our guest room as well as Sofia’s changing table, no reason to reinvent the wheel when you have accessories and furniture that will fit with your nursery.

I had two childhood rocking chairs that I repainted for my daughters, the one pictured here with my daughter Sofia sitting in it, is spray painted in Robin’s Egg Blue.

Coral accessories, bedding, and white crib will provide just enough pop to bring the entire room together.

The bedding and crib arrive this week and I’m busy putting the finishing touches on the nursery. Look for another blog post soon with the nursery all pulled together!

Here’s a photo of the room from the previous owners before we moved:

Cherry Blossom Inspired Nursery Part II

As Sofia has grown so has her nursery.  You can add simple accents and personal touches as your baby grows to reflect their current stage.  You may find decorative items that you want to add or receive gifts that would be perfect to personalize your childs room as they grown.

I added current photographs, a bird cage, Sofia’s hand print at age 9 months, and a ribbon wreath we used for her first birthday.

Of course it’s taken me until now to post these updates and Sofia is 17 months and we’ve recently moved into a new home.  Yes, that means more changes and more fun decorating her bedroom to fit her needs as a toddler and making it into a playroom.   Stay tuned for another post on her new bedroom.

Below are the photos of her nursery updates.  For more details on her nursery check our previous post: http://wp.me/p1s2CI-cQ

Cherry Blossom Inspired Nursery

Hard to believe it was this time last year we were celebrating Mother’s day in anticipation of our daughter Sofia’s birth in August.  Eight months later I’m celebrating my first Mother’s day with her!

The planner and interior designer in me immediately began thumbing through all my nursery inspiration boards.  While I like pink, I knew I didn’t want your typical all pink girl’s nursery.  I came across this beautiful Cherry Blossom painting, which reminded me of my days in DC, and knew right away it was the perfect piece to design Sofia Wimberley’s nursery around.  The painting has blues, pinks, and greens, which gave me a fun color palate to choose from.

Another important design element is to use colors, furniture, and accessories that will grow with your child.  Such as a dresser that fits the decor and serves as storage and an alternative changing table.  I finally found the perfect antique style dresser for Sofia at Old World New Home, that she’ll be able to use all through her childhood.

I added the finishing touches to the room by doing DIY projects for the fabric letters and wallpaper backing on the bookshelf.  Please see previous posts for How-To’s.

Remember you can simply add accents to your child’s room as they grow.  Now that Sofia is 8 months we have added additional accents such as photos and imprints of her foot and hand.  I have received such wonderful feedback that I will have another blog post on her updated nursery soon.
