Backstage Pass to High Point Furniture Market Fall 2014

I’ve had the pleasure of attending several High Point Markets as the design assistant to the talented Lory Cobb Interiors based out of Charlotte. I learn so much from Lory Cobb Interiors every time we venture to Market.

Lory Cobb Interios

Here’s a photo of one of my favorite installations by Lory Cobb Interiors!

High Point Market (HPMKT) is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, brining together 75,000 people biennially to High Point, NC. This year the market trends are “bright, bold and brassy” according HPMKT Style Spotters.

You learn quickly as a Market goer to wear the right shoes! Fashion is important but comfort takes the driver seat as you navigate the 11.5 million square feet of showrooms.

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll recognize this faux bamboo desk in white and gold from Bungalow 5.

Their 2015 line did not disappoint and was by far a stand out at High Point!

My next favorite is Thibaut! Always a must see at Market with their fun colors and setting trends with patterns and fabrics.

I always enjoy finding new exhibitors such as Lowcounry Originals. Lighting is setting trends and becoming more of statement piece. Loved everything in Jamie Young Co.

Shades of blue and red are hot right now! Of course my personal style is blue, white, and coral and found some great pieces at Trade Winds Furniture of Charlotte, Guild Master, Gabby and one of my favorites of HPMKT Ro-Sham-Beaux.

Hope this inspires you as much as it has me!

Blue and White Bash: Family Room Sneak Peek

blue-and-whiteI have the pleasure of linking up to the talented The Pink Pagoda for her October Blue and White Bash! If you know me, I love blue and white and have used these elements through out the design in my home.

I shared blue and white pieces from my kitchen on The Pink Pagoda back in the spring. You can find this post here and more details on my kitchen here.

Thrill of the Hunt

Today, I’m sharing a sneak peek of our family room with some of my favorite blue and white touches!

Blue & White Bash: Family Room Seak Peek

This photo has some of my favorite blue and white accessories in our home.  I love this blue and white bowl we received as a wedding gift.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match prints and shades of blue and white as shown here.

Blue and White Bash: Family Room Sneak Peek

One of the first orders of business when we moved in was to paint these built in shelves a grey blue.  Again, having that contrast of different blues is striking.

Even the gallery wall has blue and white touches!

This white and blue chevron pouf is stored in our family room, but is also used in our patio for additional seating. Plus, this kids love it! It adds a little modern to my vintage and classic look.

I hope you enjoyed a sneak peek into our family room.  If you haven’t already, make sure you pop on over to The Pink Pagoda for more blue and white home décor inspiration!

One Room Challenge Week 5: Master Bedroom

ORClinkingparticipantCIH

Welcome back to One Room Challenge Week 5! If you’re just joining in the fun, One Room Challenge (ORC), created by Linda from Calling it Home, is a 6 week challenge where 20 talented professional designers, and professional bloggers/interior designers at heart, like myself, redo a room in their home or a clients. I’m transforming our master bedroom.  To see the full transformation you can start at the beginning, Week 1.

Last week I gave you a sneak peak at all the fun accessories I’ve found for our master bedroom! I also had several outstanding items on my “punch/to do list”. Here’s a sneak peak of where I am today.

This is the last shot of the room before the big reveal! I didn’t want to give away too much, but as you can see I made a decision on the toss pillows.

Gold tray

Gold Tray

Operation gold tray is complete! I found this beautiful silver Greek key mirrored tray at HomeGoods that matches perfectly with the gold Greek key picture frame.  A little antique gold spray paint and voila, I have myself a gold tray!

Wall Art

The blue hand painted patchwork tiles from Ballard Designs that I was waiting weeks for finally arrived yesterday! They look even better in person.

Antique family mirror or grey distressed wood mirror

After following up with at least 20 different mirror and glass companies, no one in Charlotte is able to cut beveled non straight edges.  Thus, I went back to the first mirror and glass shop and paid for my grandparents mirror to be replaced without beveled edges.  Down side, it will take a few weeks.  Upside, on my third trip to HomeGoods this week I found a beautiful grey distressed sunburst like mirror.  I absolutely love it! However, I’m not sold on it right above the dark wood dresser.

Of course it wouldn’t be a week without a major down side. If you recall, I have an upholstered headboard, Pottery Barn (Riley), and want to make it custom by adding nailhead and grey fabric trim similar to the photos below.

A Thoughful Place Master Bedroom

A Thoughtful Place

I finally talked to someone at Design Services of Charlotte and followed up with an e-mail for an estimate. Despite my additional attempts to follow up, I have yet to receive any estimate, and at this point it’s not feasible in my timeline.  UGH! Back to the drawing board…

I headed over to Lowes and bought myself some nailhead trim, a heavy duty stapler, and staples. Yes, that’s right another DIY project is underway and I’m attempting to do nailhead and fabric trim on my own. Bonus to not having to pay a seamstress for nailhead and fabric trim detail on my headboard is being able to splurge on new sconces that will go well with the room’s fixtures.

Here’s a sneak peak at some of the other accessories I found.

White wired basket for magazines or blankets

Here is my initial punch/to do list and what is still outstanding:

  • Nailhead and fabric trim on upholstered headboard
  • Hang wall art above bed – In progress
  • Install new wall sconces
  • Replace broken antique mirror with beveled glass
  • Find grey or neutral arm chair/pillows for blue arm chair
  • Toss pillows for bed
  • Accent table
  • Bench for foot of bed
  • White inlay wall mirrors
  • Hang additional wall art and paintings
  • Buy new wall sconces
  • Gold tray for dark wood dresser
  • White mirrored tray
  • Purchase additional accessories for the room

One more week to go, let’s do this!
