DIY Chalkboard Decoration Ideas!

Chalkboards are not just for the school room anymore! Chalkboards are the new trend in wedding and event decor from table number signs, to food displays, to name tags.

Why not be creative and make your own chalkboard decor using chalkboard paint such as the pumpkin pictured above for the kids to decorate this Halloween.

Hosting a wine and cheese party? Make your own chalkboard signs in fun colors to fit your theme.  You can also make your own chalkboard sign to match the theme for a kid’s birthday party or next years first day of school photos.  Another fun way to announce you’re expecting a baby is to make your own chalkboard sign(s) with the name of the baby, due date, or the words love, happiness, and family. The uses are endless!

To make your own chalkboard sign you will need the following:

  •  1 Piece of white foam board/plastic pumpkin (8in x 10in foam board is shown)
  • Colored chalkboard paint (Martha Stewart Blue Chalkboard paint is shown)
  • 1 Sponge brush
  • Colored chalk

Take the white foam board and paint one coat of chalkboard paint using the sponge brush as directed.  Let it dry for 30 minutes. Paint second coat of paint and lay dry for 24 hours.  Use colored chalk to write your message.

Fall Entertaining

There’s something about Fall when the kids go back to school, the air becomes crisp and football, apple and pumpkin picking are family past times. Using the flavors and the colors of the season it’s easy to decorate your front porch and tablescape with seasonal squash, apples, flowers, eggplant and a little glam with glitter!   Host a fall dinner party, pumpkin carving or decorating party with stickers and glitter, or a Halloween party. Fall entertaining and decor isn’t just for the September and October months, but can be carried over for Thanksgiving entertaining as well.  Be creative in your design by using other vegetables for a punch of color like I did on this tablescape above with artichokes.  You can cut a hole in the top of the artichoke or a small pumpkin and place a votive candle in the middle, which will make your setting perfect for an evening event.  For decorating tips and ideas please check out last years post on Fall Entertaining.
